Myths For ages our ancestors have told the story of how the Urboefjellgard valley was created in the time when the Gods of Norwegian mythology ruled over Walhalla. Thor, the God of war, visited a wedding on one of the farms in the Urdboe valley. He wanted to test the farmer's hospitality and disguised himself with a hat and a long robe. He asked the wedding guests to serve him beer, but they refused. Thor got very angry and pulled his war hammer from under his robe. He started to swing the hammer and broke the whole farm down. After that he went up on the mountain and smashed a huge rock, which rolled down and took other rocks with it. The rocks fell into the valley and created the natural dam that is still separating the small Urdboe Lake from the big Totak Lake today. After Thor finished crushing the mountain, he went down to take a look at the chaos. The neighbouring farmer who owned the Urdboefjellgard farm came up to him and offered him a meal and a big pint of beer. Thor was so pleased with this gesture that he removed all the rocks from the farmers land with one swing of his war hammer. The farmer now was able to work in his land again and earn a living for his family. |
