Daytrips
When you've had enough of the swimming, fishing, horseriding, canoing, hiking and relaxing on and around the farm, then here are some suggestions for a daytrip in the region.
Telemarkskanalen
One of Norway's most exsclusive attractions is the boattrip through Telemarkskanalen. Telemarkskanalen is a channel with eight sluices, that goes from the town of Skien near the coast up to Dalen, 105 km into the hart of the country. During the trip, the eight sluices and eighteen sluice chambers elevate the boat from sealevel to 72 m above sea level. The channel was build by 500 local workmen who spent 5 years to complete it. There are two boats traveling the channel, the Henrik Ibsen and the Victoria, leaving every day from Skien or Dalen. Dalen is located about 70 km from Urdbø Fjellgård. The trip from Skien to Dalen or vice versa takes a day and it is called Europe’s longest adventure. More information is found on the Telemarkskanalen website.
Hovden
In Hovden, at about 40 km from UrdboeFjellgard, you will find a luxurious bathing centre. The centre has several sauna's with different herbs and temperatures. There are hot thubs, turkish steaming cabins and of course a chillingly cold cooling bath. The centre is partly indoors and partly outdoors.
Rjukan
The small town of Rjukan is also worth seeing. It's located about 70 km or 1,5 hours from UrdbøFjellgard. You will enter the town driving over “Maristigen” the famous steep road that goes down to the vilage center and on to “Rjukanfossen”, one of the most beautiful waterfalls of Telemart. In Rjukan you will also find the Norsk Industriarbeidermusem. This museum tells the history of Norwegian's industrial revolution. From Rjukan you can take the “Krosso-banen” up to the mountain top. This “Krosso-banen” is Europe's first cable lift. Up on the mountain top you can drink coffee in the Gvepseborg cafeteria. From the cafetaria you have a magnificent view over the Hardangervidda and onto Gaustatoppen.
Hardanger
In Mai & June the fruittree's of Hardanger are blossoming. It is an amazing, breathtaking experience tot see several thousand fruittrees covered in flowers. It's like a painters palette, white clowds in the blue sky, the white snow at the mountains, the green grass on the hills, the pink blossoms of the trees and blue water of the sea below. Hardanger is located about 1,5 hours west from UrdboeFjellgard.
